Say what?
What's CSS?
CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, are simply text instructions that tell your Web browser how to display a particular page element. All fonts, colors, backgrounds, borders, placement - anything to do with display - should be accomplished through CSS.
What's XHTML?
XHTML or Extensible Hypertext Markup Language - yeah, my eyes glass over on that one, too - is the current recommended language in which Web pages are written.

What are tables?
Tables were originally introduced to HTML as a way to format tabular data. When designers got involved in building websites, they hacked these tables and began using them for layout. Table-based layouts sport bigger file sizes (slower download), and are more difficult to update than a web standard table-less design formatted with CSS.
What's Javascript?
Javascript is a scripting language that adds interactivity to websites. Its uses are many. The web standard form of Javascript is known as ECMAscript.
What's PHP / MySQL?
PHP is an open-source (free to use and adapt) programming language uniquely suited for the Web. It's most common companion, MySQL, is also open-source. It is a database management system.
What I do......and other such confusing stuff.
Okay, so there's a bit of techno-babble on this page. But if you ever have any questions as to what I'm doing, all you have to do is ask. I'll make sure you understand what's going on, and what you're paying for.
Web standard design
Sites are built with XHTML, CSS, and Javascript in compliance with current Web standards and tailored to your needs. Sites are functionally, and for the most part visually, identical in all browsers that support Web standards.
Table-less design
At Burgin Design, placement of elements and layout is done without tables as a matter of general practice. However, if for one reason or another you find it a necessity, I can build your site with nested tables. Table-less layout speeds download, facilitates search engine indexing, and makes updating a lot simpler.
PHP / MySQL
I use Open Source tools like PHP and MySQL to create powerful, functional database driven Web sites and e-commerce applications. PHP and MySQL are supported by most Web hosts - if the host you use know doesn't support it, I know one who does.
PHP and MySQL are server-side technologies - that means that the Web server processes any requests prior to sending the results to your Web browser. In plain English, since the Web browser does not have to do any work to see PHP and MySQL there's never a conflict between Microsoft, Netscape, etc.
Custom graphics and images
I don't use clipart or canned graphics. Everything I do is custom - either created by me or by someone you choose. I use Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Freehand and Fireworks, Corel Draw, and others. As far as images, I can either take digital photos or use photos available to you.
Search submission
Last but certainly not least, I make it a point to keep up on the current likes and dislikes of the search services, and build your site from square one to be better seen and listed.
Then, as part of the normal service, I submit your site to multiple search engines and lists. In addition, I will advise you on which worthwhile "pay" search engines to submit to, and charge you only what they charge me for listing.
